Definition of Bitumen Penetration Grade 40/50

Bitumen 40/50 Penetration Grade bitumen means the penetration value is in the range 40 to 50 at standard test conditions which commonly used as a Paving Grade. Bitumen is applicable for the production of hot mix asphalt for bases and pavements and for road construction. Penetration Grade Bitumen supplied by RABIT (RAHA BITUMEN) Co. This bitumen is produced through aeration on vacuum bottom (the raw material used for making bitumen left in vacuum distillation column in oil refineries) in bitumen production units. Its penetration grade ( the measure of bitumen hardness) is between 40 to 50. Bitumen is specified by the penetration and softening point test. Designing is by penetration range only. The penetration grade bitumen has a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at lower temperatures. This unique temperature-viscosity relationship is important when determining the performance parameters such as the adhesion, rheology, durability and application temperatures of bitumen.

The Bitumen mode is dependent on temperature. The temperature-vs-stiffness relationship of bitumen is dependent on the type of crude oil and its refining method. Bitumen penetration grade 40/50 is semi-hard penetration grade bitumen used as a paving grade bitumen which is suitable for road construction and repair. It is also used for the production of asphalt pavements with the below technical specification. This grade of bitumen is mainly used in the manufacturing of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses. Bitumen 40/50 is one of the most used bitumen grades and it’s a basic material for all other bituminous products.

Bitumen Pentration 40/50 is suitable for road construction and for the asphalt pavements with superior properties. This type of bitumen used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses and the main usage of this product is used in the road at tropical regions. the bitumen is provided during the presses of oxidation of vacuum bottom in bitumen production units. Due to its high air blowing and penetration, it is used in tropical areas with the Warm weather. It is not softened at high temperature and does not fail its qualities.

There are several different ways to package the bitumen which can vary depending on the tonnage, type, and grade of the bitumen- as mentioned before, different grades of bitumen have different levels of stiffness and viscosity- so the grade also plays an important role in choosing a suitable packaging.

Bitumen grade 40/50 is commonly packed in new steel drums, 150, 180 & 220 Kg barrels and Jumbo Bags or 300 Kg Bitubag.

  •  1 MT Jumbo Bag with Steel Cage and Pallet- Loading 20 Jumbo Bag in 20ft Container= 20 Ton- The most common packaging for East of Asia and South America
  •  1200 Kg Jumbo Bag- Loading 20 Jumbo Bag in 40ft Container= 24 Ton- The most common packaging for SouthEast of Asia.
  •  300Kg Bitubag- Loading 80 Bitubag in 20ft Container= 24 Ton- Of course, it is worth noting that containers must be sent to the factory for loading, which is subject to a cost.
  • 180kg New Steel Drum- Loading 110Drum in 20ft Container= 19.8-20 Ton- The most common packaging for East of Asia and Africa Countries.
  • 150kg New Steel Drum- Loading 110Drum in 20ft Container= 16.5 Ton- The most common packaging for Bangladesh, Nepal- Indonesia.
  • Bitutainer- Loading 25 Ton Bulk Bitumen in Bitutainer- This type of packaging is not common due to the high cost of the Bitutainer and is often suitable for short distances where round-trip transportation is cost-effective.
  • Bulk in Tanker Truck= Loading 24-25 Ton Bulk Bitumen in Tanker Truck- Suitable for neighboring countries
  • Bulk in Bitumen Carrier (Bulk Vessel): Loading 2,000-40,000 Ton Bitumen in Bulk Vessel- Very convenient and suitable and cost-effective for customers who have tanks at the destination port.
