Bitumen Emulsion Specification

  • It is possible to transport bitumen emulsion in bulk packing or in drums for long distances.
  • It is possible to use bitumen emulsion for seal coat and asphalt with low thickness.
  • It is proper for any kind of asphalt and maintenance (streets- roads- airports).
  • It is not flammable while keeping, transferring and implementation.
  • It can be implemented in ambient temperature.
  • It has high penetration rate due to high fluidity.
  • It can be applied by simple paving or spraying machine with narrower nuzzles.
  • It is harmless to the environment in the whole process of producing, transportation, paving, and breaking.
  • It breaks fast (between 1 or 2 hours) after facing with stone materials.
  • It is not toxicant and has no aroma and can even be used on wet surfaces.
  • After breaking process, the color changes from brown to black.
  • There is no need of heating bitumen emulsion when the temperature is above 5 centigrade.
  • To avoid getting emulsion bitumen cold, it must be kept at temperatures between 5 to 80 centigrade or if heating is not possible, it must be mixed with a steel or Teflon mixer once in a week for 1 hour to remain homogeneous and intermixed well.
  • Its duration of storage is about 3 months, but by using indirect heating and mixing with the mixer, we can add one month to the bitumen emulsion lifetime.
  • It must be pumped at the bottom of the storage tank (and not from the height higher than 30 cm above the bottom) so that water and bitumen remain intermixed and avoid being separated.
  • To ensure the best application, we should care to install paving nozzles at the right place. At least two nozzles are required to cover any part of the surface.
  • While mixing/spraying bitumen emulsion with/on aggregates, the aggregates should be washed and clean of dust. We should not use 0 to 3 mm aggregates in order not to create coagulation either.
